Sughra Hussainy

Sughra Hussainy came to the US in 2016 as a featured artist for the exhibition, Turquoise Mountain: Artists Transforming Afghanistan, at the Smithsonian’s Freer & Sackler Galleries of Art, Washington DC. Sughra specializes in traditional Afghan art forms: miniature paintings typically made to illustrate poetry, prose, or scientific writing; illumination which uses geometric and floral designs painted in color and gold usually found surrounding text; and calligraphy in Arabic and Persian. Hussainy has taught many workshops for children, families, and adults in the DC region.
